How do you pick outfits
for boudoir?
A few notes on what to wear for your boudoir session.
Confidence is key
More than anything, make sure you feel great in the clothes you wear and that they fit you well. Confidence and comfort in what you’re wearing goes a really long way during the session — and it’ll show.
Bring outfit options
Always nice to have options! We’ll chat through them before your session so you’re not coming in blind, but in general, most sessions start with outfits with more coverage and go from there. Few suggestions:
Casual: flattering jeans, simple blouse, tank top, undies
One-piece: body suit, teddy, harness
Two-piece: bra & underwear, lingerie set, garter getup
Coverup: robe, shawl, wrap, cozy sweater
Zero-piece: being photographed nude is an option
Shop your closet
Totally cool if you want to pick up something new for the session, but it’s not required. Whether it comes from a store or your closet, make sure you love it.
Best Color & patterns
Solid neutrals, white, tans, soft & muted tones, black — all great options.
When in doubt: something black or white that fits you well.
Easy to forget:
Remove all visible clothing tags and check your wrists for hair ties 🤙🏻
What not to wear to a boudoir photo shoot
I really do stand by the point that you can wear anything that physically fits you well and makes you feel like a badass.
Photographically, I generally advise against bold neon colors, as cameras don’t always capture these accurately.
Aesthetically, muted tones keep the focus of the images on you.
And practically, fit really is crucial. You want to avoid pieces that constrict, bunch, chaff, dig in, or need frequent adjustment. Being preoccupied by these things will keep you from relaxing into the session and going with the flow.
Boudoir’s about stepping out of the ordinary a bit and putting yourself out there — which means what you choose to wear doesn’t need to be something you wear all the time, or have ever worn.
